Hi, I’m Marie Bai, and I’m passionate about writing. I love words, in the literary sense, and as a way to express my thoughts and feelings, share my vision, and most importantly heal and inspire others. I write about everything, including human experiences, emotions, the purpose of life, spirituality, and everyday observations.
I’ve been writing on and off for the past ten years, and the love for this art naturally started with the love for reading. My grandfather used to buy me books, and people would always find me head buried in them since I was very young.
I am now finally stepping into my divine mission which I define as being two-fold:
1. The first one is to help others heal by sharing my personal experiences and perspective as a scholar, a mom, a (Black) woman, an Immigrant, a wife, a thinker, and an African. As such, I am aware that my audience will span multiple lanes since I find myself at an intersectionality that encompasses different perspectives.
My job is to be transparent in the experiences I share so that others have a true representation of how I see the world, and hopefully find something they can be inspired by or identify with. All with the goal to empower them to live an authentic life.
2. To participate in the awakening of the African people at Home and in the Diaspora, through education, and the promotion of literacy. My hope is to bring us to love and believe in ourselves so that we can earn the respect we deserve from the rest of the world. Being a native of Côte d’Ivoire in West Africa, this is a cause that is dear to my heart.
As the two points above illustrate, most of my writing will be centered around my passions, namely African Studies, Theology (Spirituality & Religion), Philosophy, and Literature. I am also keen on the study of sound and words (language specifically), and Rap music is my love language.
Non-fiction, poems, or essays, I am always delighted to put pen to paper (or finger to keyboard) to allow my writing to be a vessel for this message coming from the depth of my heart. Writing is not only a way for me to explore my emotions but also a way to affirm myself and participate in the magic of creating something out of nothing. Besides, I like to think of myself as a contemporary thinker and philosopher, and writing is a way for me to materialize that.
I believe in stories, in the power of sharing experiences, and transcending pain and using it as a tool for growth.
